May Celebrations

National Hamburger Month

Iron Horse Valley Apartments Blog post about May celebrations and upcoming holidays for your San Antonio, TX apartment for rent this May. We've also included a few movie and book suggestions for your enjoyment.

May is National Hamburger Month! To celebrate, we recommend visiting Chester’s Hamburgers, a local restaurant chain that has been voted both Best Burger in Town and Best Burger in the State. Chester’s has been serving old fashioned hamburgers for over 30 years and has become a San Antonio tradition! Their menu also includes fresh cut fries, real ice cream shakes and malts, salads, buffalo wings, and more. Chester’s Hamburgers is about a 6-minute drive away from our apartment community.

National Bike Month

Along with being National Hamburger Month, May is also National Bike Month. Get outdoors and stay active by visiting one of your favorite biking trails here in San Antonio. We recommend Greenway Trails, which includes over 40 major trail heads. The Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System (Greenway) is a growing network of approximately 65 miles of developed multi-use and accessible trails. The Greenway trails wind through natural landscapes along many of San Antonio’s waterways. Check it out to celebrate National Bike Month before the month is through.

House Beautiful shared some simple ideas for DIY Mother's Day Gifts that are sure to make your mom feel extra special! No matter how you choose to celebrate Mother’s Day this year, make sure you let your mom know how much you love and appreciate her.

Museum Day

Celebrate Museum Day on Friday, May 18th by visiting a local museum in the area. The DoSeum is a great option for a unique hands-on museum experience. The majority of the exhibits at The DoSeum boast a science, technology, and mathematics (STEM) focus, which is integrated with literacy and creative arts concepts.  The museum features exhibits unlike those found in any other children’s museum in the country, including an interactive robot named Baxter, a spy academy filled with math challenges, an interactive puppet parade, a musical staircase, a Children’s River, and a significant outdoor space with plenty of water features, shade, and an ADA-accessible treehouse.  From solar energy and water recycling to habitat restoration, The DoSeum was designed and constructed with a thoughtful, sustainable approach and offers a number of features to make it both kid and environmentally friendly. The DoSeum is about a 15-minute drive from our San Antonio apartment community.

Book Suggestions

The Wisdom of Wolves: Lessons from the Sawtooth Pack by Jim & Jamie Dutcher

“For six years Jim and Jamie Dutcher lived intimately with a pack of wolves, gaining their trust as no one has before. In this book the Dutchers reflect on the virtues they observed in wolf society and behavior. Each chapter exemplifies a principle, such as kindness, teamwork, playfulness, respect, curiosity, and compassion. Their heartfelt stories combine into a thought-provoking meditation on the values shared between the human and the animal world. Occasional photographs bring the wolves and their behaviors into absorbing focus.”

An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

“Newlyweds Celestial and Roy are the embodiment of both the American Dream and the New South. He is a young executive, and she is an artist on the brink of an exciting career. But as they settle into the routine of their life together, they are ripped apart by circumstances neither could have imagined. Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years for a crime Celestial knows he didn’t commit. Though fiercely independent, Celestial finds herself bereft and unmoored, taking comfort in Andre, her childhood friend, and best man at their wedding. As Roy’s time in prison passes, she is unable to hold on to the love that has been her center. After five years, Roy’s conviction is suddenly overturned, and he returns to Atlanta ready to resume their life together.”
